Why NorthRidge

The right leadership, expertise and capacity for what comes next.

Companies often know where they need to go but lack the executive capacity, specialized expertise or delivery ecosystem required to get there. NorthRidge connects business strategy, technology, products, people and partners to measurable outcomes.

The relationship can take the form that best fits the opportunity: a full-time executive role, interim or fractional leadership, strategic advisory, or a defined consulting and transformation engagement.

Do these challenges sound familiar?

  • Technology or product complexity is starting to limit growth.
  • Important decisions stall because no one owns them at executive level.
  • A transformation matters, but the leadership team cannot free the capacity.
  • AI pilots are multiplying without clear governance or business value.
  • An acquisition, investment or integration needs independent assessment.
  • Your strategy is clear, but you need the right specialists and partners to execute it.
What We Help Solve

Turn complex technology challenges into business results.

Executive leadership and consulting across technology, product, enterprise IT, innovation and AI—shaped around the outcome your business needs.

CTO

Scale the platform

When an MVP needs to scale, technical debt slows releases, or engineering spend outpaces delivery.

The mandate: Architecture and cloud roadmap, engineering discipline, reliability, security and build / buy / partner decisions.

CPO

Turn product into a growth engine

When customer requests dictate the roadmap, launches miss, or services need to become repeatable offers.

The mandate: Portfolio strategy, customer discovery, pricing and packaging, commercialization and product governance.

CIO

Modernize the enterprise

When disconnected systems, unreliable data, rising vendor costs or security gaps limit the business.

The mandate: Application and vendor rationalization, enterprise modernization, data strategy, security governance and investment priorities.

Chief Innovation Officer

Build the next growth curve

When promising ideas stall in workshops or pilots and new revenue opportunities lack ownership.

The mandate: An innovation portfolio with funding criteria, business owners and a path from experiment to commercialization.

Chief AI Officer

Move from AI pilots to AI value

When AI tools and agents multiply faster than governance, adoption or measurable returns.

The mandate: Prioritized use cases, data and architecture requirements, risk controls, workflow redesign and value tracking.

Transformation Accelerator

Give a critical initiative an executive owner

When an existing CIO, CTO or CPO needs additional capacity to lead a major transformation.

The mandate: Focused ownership of the initiative, cross-functional decisions, milestones and capability transfer alongside your leadership team.

Meet Dean Fernandes

Both sides of enterprise IT. One business perspective.

More than 25 years on both sides of enterprise IT: leading large-scale internal technology organizations and building the managed-service offers and platforms that enterprise CIOs evaluate and buy.

That dual perspective helps me connect what an enterprise needs to operate effectively with what a technology business needs to build, differentiate and sell. It supports better investment decisions, stronger IT service delivery and more competitive products and services.

My experience spans CTO, chief product and technology, and executive IT leadership across NWN, DXC Technology, Pearson, CSC and Nortel. I have led global teams of up to 250 and $2B portfolios, bringing together product management, software and platform engineering, infrastructure, IT operations and P&L accountability.

At NWN, I served as Chief Product and Technology Officer, leading an AI-powered portfolio strategy anchored by the Experience Management Platform. That strategy expanded the company’s addressable market from $500B to more than $1T and contributed to over $300M in revenue growth.

My expertise spans AI and agentic workflows, cloud, cybersecurity, connectivity, observability and automation, alongside M&A integration, partnerships, pricing and go-to-market execution. I connect boardroom strategy and portfolio investments with architecture decisions and day-to-day operational delivery.

Common Questions

Flexible ways to work with NorthRidge.

Can I hire Dean for a full-time executive role?

Yes. Dean is open to full-time technology executive opportunities. Contact him to discuss the organization, leadership mandate and long-term priorities.

How does the partner ecosystem support an engagement?

Dean helps identify where specialist expertise or delivery capacity would support your objectives. Partner scope, responsibilities and working arrangements are agreed for the engagement, with a shared direction alongside your internal team.

What is the difference between fractional, part-time and interim leadership?

Fractional leadership owns an agreed executive mandate for a portion of time. Part-time leadership usually provides ongoing responsibility for a broader function on a regular schedule. Interim leadership fills a temporary need, often at greater intensity, during a transition or permanent search. The scope and decision rights matter more than the title.

Can NorthRidge work alongside our existing executive?

Yes. A Transformation Accelerator gives one major initiative dedicated executive ownership. Your existing leader retains responsibility for the long-term function, with decision rights and collaboration agreed at the start.

How long does an engagement last?

Duration depends on the mandate. The 90-Day Executive Accelerator establishes the diagnosis, agenda and initial execution. Advisory and fractional retainers can continue as needed; interim and project assignments follow an agreed transition or completion plan.

Is the work remote or on-site?

NorthRidge offers remote-first executive leadership with on-site participation for planning sessions, workshops and key milestones where agreed. Cadence and travel are discussed when scoping the engagement.

When is a permanent executive the better choice?

A permanent role is often appropriate when the business needs continuous daily leadership of a large function, enduring ownership of culture and talent, or a permanent scope that warrants a full-time seat. Fractional work also needs sponsorship, authority, access and resources to succeed.

How are scope and fees determined?

Engagements are scoped around the outcomes, intensity, duration, executive access and responsibility required. A conversation about your hurdle establishes whether a retainer, interim assignment or fixed-scope assessment is the appropriate starting point.

How do we measure progress and avoid dependency?

Agree the baseline, success measures, owners and milestones at the start. Review delivery and business outcomes regularly. Coaching, documented decisions, repeatable governance and an explicit handover help your team continue the work.
